Mallory Dual Point Distributor

Greg,
Thanks, This looks like the problem. I will obtain another condenser and try. I went through all the same pains as you while troubleshooting this issue.

I am sure you will have no porblem after changing the condensor. The problem was really a pain. We were on a C & D Type Jag tour a few years ago and litterally every car equiped with a Malllory dual pint had the same problem sometime during the week. If it wasn't so inconvientent on such an event it would have alomost been comical. Every so many miles another car would be on the side of the road and changing condensors. Frankly we started to be worrried we would run out of spare condensor parts. Unfortunately at the time we did not know the real problem and kept replacing the defective ones with new Mallory parts. Otherwise the Mallory distributor is a great part and very rielable.

Happy motoring,
GregJ

Greg,
I purchased a condensor from Napa and installed. All is now fine. I will be interested to see if this will survive. I also have a ready spare.
Regards,

Hi,

Glad you have found that the distributor problem is only the condensor. I can tell you that when we replaced the condensor with the first Mallory problems I too always had spares ready but never needed them. The cars that had the problem at first have had the same aftermarket (domestic) standard 12v condensor for 7 years and no problems or need for a change so far. Outside of this one problem the Mallory units have been very good in racing as well as street application. I just wish Mallory had been more forth coming about the problem. It is especially disconcerting to hear that the faulty condensors are still out there and causing problems.
