Major software Problem!

My Windows 10 computer has been hit with a virus, possibly Ransomware! I have three protection programs. The easiest thing to do is clean out the computer, I'll run a hard drive wiping program which takes about 24 hours. I'm thinking of also changing my email server. I'll be down for a couple of days as I can't devote too much time to this problem. The two other computers' email programs will be replaced also. Later. PJ

Paul - you might want to run the disk-wipe program after booting from a disk (or USB). You don't give any details, but if the virus (or whatever) has corrupted your boot files on the HD, it could also have corrupted any disk-wipe software you have on the drive.
Good luck.

I'm back! Well found out one or more files were corrupted during a Microsoft automatic upgrade during the wee hours in the morning. I don't know the whole process, but it messed up my email, and network files, along with my wireless printer software. I chose to wipe the hard drive, re-formatte it and re-install all the software. In the mean time, I shut off any automatic updates! The HP printer refused to print so after contacting HP, they re-inserted all new software and now the printer works, took over an hour for that process! Lost some accounts, should be able to get them back soon. NO MORE :censored1: MIDNIGHT UPDATES!!! PJ

Glad it wasn't a virus!

It's the same thing! Automagic updates foul up a system just as effectively as a virus. The effort it takes to recover is equivalent.
