Major problems, major stress

With a neophite the stethoscope isolates sounds. The screwdriver may need an "ear" with some experience.

They're cheap, they can be had at PepBoys or other parts houses. K-D Tools at NAPA, etc.
 
Agree Doc, but screw driver we all got right there in the top drawer.
 
I happen to have an electronic "Mechanics Stethoscope". You know, the battery operated kind with the probe and microphone. I've had mixed results with it though. I'll be breaking it out this weekend (or sooner) to see if it reveals any secrets. Hopefully it will really help isolate the sound because right now, there are far too many for the "naked ear" to distinguish.
