Good morning
It's cold in Ontario this January morning I am collecting data and tools for my next DIY in the spring. Main bearing and thrust washers for my 74 TR6 I have an issue about crawling under and i am wondering if i should lift the whole car and where would i lift with a floor jack without causing damage
Any help /direction would be appreciated

You can do what you propose with just the front lifted high enough, but the more room the better for you and your maneuverability.

I should let someone else advise you about lifting points and supports...I don't want the responsibility.

The internet is chock-a-block with ideas for this:

But seriously, use good jack stands and/or something like this:

I use jack stands but sometimes I need both the front and back raised and having at least one end supported by wood cribbing makes the car feel especially solid & secure.

And that picture is NEVER the way to do it. Buy some jack stands....good ones!
Amen to that! Way back with my first car (a non-LBC), I used cinder blocks as shown in Ken's photo. Worked great, until one day they both collapsed! Just suddenly returned to dust. Fortunately, I wasn't under the car at the time, but I would have been in just a minute or two...

I worry about getting caught under and squished like a bug I have sourced numerous jack stands although the cribbing looks very solid
Thanks

As to lifting points THE BOOK says to use the front cross member. This is the member that is directly behind the radiator protection cross bar. For the rear it says to use the pumpkin of the rear differential. Once the car is lifted to whatever height you wish I agree that we should use good quality jack stands. If you have been under you car before you will find that you need more room than you think. Which is saying that you need as much height as you can get. Those jack stands need to go underneath the frame both front and back. Ideally those positions should be on the frame inboard of the wheels of the car. Once the car is up on the jack stands gently shake it to make sure it is not going to move from where you have it. An improperly adjusted jack stand can give you a wobbly car. You do not want that. Get the car sitting solid before going underneath it.

While cinder blocks should never be used as jack stands, if you use them to support anything do not put the weight on a flat side as is shown in poolboy's first picture. In their intended use the holes are vertical, while in martial arts demonstrations they are horizontal. For good reason.
