Magazine help wanted

A good friend would like to pick out whole paragraphs from an article in the March 1971 Car and Driver magazine titled "The Unlikely Tractor" (page 72) about triumph TR’s to submit for publication in the (non- profit) TR Register club magazine but we don't want to fall foul of any copyright issues and have no idea how check if it's okay.
would any of you guys have a current email address for the editor or publishers - May be from a recent copy of the mag. Or personal contacts ?So he can email and ask.

As a general rule, US publication copyright on material published prior to 1978 is subject to the 95 year copyright rule (95 years after publication).

You could contact Nathan Christopher, Executive Director of Public Relations, explain what you want to do, and just ask for permission to use the C&D paragraphs, obviously with proper credit to C&D.

Usually, as long as you're clear on what text you'll use, and how you'll use the text, you're fine. Emphasize it's for a specialized car magazine, and estimate the number of people who read it.
