My wife has a MacBook and I was looking at it tonight an a message came up saying the startup disk is almost full. I googled it and it said I should check the disk capacity - it reads, 148.7 GB capacity, 110.3 GB free space and 38.5 GB used. This makes no sense to me - HELP!!
 
Some applications can cause a false "startup almost full" message. One thing you can try is, go into Applications/Utilities and run the "Disk Utility", then select the hard drive and the "First Aid" tab and click the "Repair Permissions".
