It's my understanding that the luggage racks were often dealer installed options. We have the original luggage rack that came on our car from the dealer and it doesn't look like the ones that I've seen on other Healeys. I've been told that it is similar to the ones that came on MG's of the period, but I know that it came with the car from the showroom floor.

Soren,
The rack available from Cape International is about the nicest I have seen.

Here is a pic of my Cape Intl rack. Note it does not require drilling holes in the trunk lid and it doesn't rest upon the bumper either. The metal straps hook beneath the lower lip of the lid. The paint is protected by a wide rubber gasket beneath the strips. The upper end attaches to and moves with the trunk lid hinge. It does cause the boot lid to weigh more, but it is a totally reversible modification. The quality of the Cape piece is exceptional, but it ain't cheap.

I have a Cape rack on order at the moment - and it was ordered 4 months ago - they're having some issues with getting around to making a batch and have been taking their sweet time but I'm hoping it's worth the wait.

Thanks for the pics Randy - always good to hear a favourable report from an existing user.

I also have the Cape rack and am very pleased. Mine arrived slightly damaged ( the straps that hold it down under the bottom edge of my boot lid). I gave it to my body shop man and asked him to see what he could do. He was able to cut off the straps and mounted it through the boot lid. I almost had a heart attack when I first saw the holes drilled through the boot lid but I am very happy with how it turned out and works. Besides, he repaired many rust holes in that boot lid before drilling the new ones to mount the rack !
