Well, I did it, I am proud to say, yeppers, I did it! I committed the cardinal of why fix it if it ain't broke? Here is what I did. I washed the motor in my 1974 MGB. Afterwards, I did not get any spark. THEN I took out the distributor cap and dried it out (hmm, thinking that life would be that simple, LOL)And WAA LAA! no spark! Ok, Ok, so I'm thinking to meself, alright, I will just do a tuneup. Would you believe it, I get a distributor cap from the auto parts store, and inside the cap, the rotor will not turn due to the fact that the contacts are not flat, so the rotor tab inside where it notchs into the distributor is ground off because the rotor will not circulate inside the cap, due to the cap defect. Ok, Ok I think, "it can't be that hard" I tell meself. So I put on the old cap & rotor. Get the neighbor to give her a spin. And low & behold, No dam spark. Any suggestions, anybody, andybody? Eighteen years with this car, nice as pie, even gave her a facelift and painted her "Hooker Red" This car has seen me through one marriage already. I just want to get the old spark back in my life.
 
I would suggest replacing the plug wires and high-tension lead from the coil to the distributor. Whilst you have things apart and disconnected, a thorough session with a hair dryer followed by liberal applications of WD-40 might just do the trick.

It is always easy to comment, "after the fact" BUT next time regardless of the car you are washing............wrap the distributor with a plastic grocery bag. It saves a whole lot of grief.............especially where Lord Lucas (the dark lord of electricity) is involved. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
 
Hi welcome. Have you got a spark at the points. If not check the coil and coil lead. If you have a spark at the points then the problem is from dissy cap and leads. Keep us up to date and good Luck. Regards John.
