Interesting ebay item out there for the West Coasters on the forum:

Lucas Vanguard Engine

Seller refers to it as a Lucas Vanguard - that's a new one to me. Not sure what the exact differences are on Vanguard blocks vs TR2-4 blocks, but I recall that there are differences. Also look like an overdrive slapped on the end, but I don't recognize it as an A-type.

Interesting indeed! If it wasn't 500 miles away, I might go have a look.

BTW, I believe that is an A-type, but with a different rear housing than the TR2-6 use. Solenoid appears to be missing, or perhaps it was cable operated instead.

There are a fair number of detail differences inside and out. Vanguards had an 85mm bore (v. 83mm and, later, 86mm for TRs and 80mm for the Ensign and Atlas Major). More importantly, items such as the block itself were strengthened when being developed for the TR sports cars, but I'm not sure if some of those strengthened areas were used on the Vanguard, i.e., beefier area where head studs mounted.

As for the OD, the Vanguard Series II SPC I have shows a solenoid for the OD gearbox, and it does appear to be missing on the auction item.
