Bring the old rotor. Add to your tool/spares kit a handful of cable/wire ties and some Krazy-Glue. I knew a guy years ago whose rotor broke in two on his drive home. Since he had no spare he Krazy-Glued the parts together and placed a cable tie around the body to give it extra strength. It lasted long enough for him to buy a new part... after which the repaired rotor became his emergency spare.
If you look closely at this photo, you can see that the aluminum lugs in the cap were not installed properly. Very poor quality assurance on the manufacturers part. They are twisted and the rotor is grinding them down to where they should be. I've seen this on several caps lately. I've also seen some so bad that the rotors nearly shattered when they hit the turret lugs.
The grooves in the cap seems to be a mismatch in rotors and caps as previously stated.
Now I inspect every distributor cap when it comes in. If its bad, Moss doesn't even want it back. They just send out another one.
