Lucas Distributor Rebuilt by Advanced Distributors

Aloha All,

Let me be the next to endorse Advanced Distributors. The forty-nine year old distributor was badly worn and needed to be repaired or replaced. I discovered this while trying to set the points. I found I could push laterally on the rotor shaft and open and close the points. I followed several discussions on the BCF about replacement options and decided to send Jeff an e-mail to see if he thought he could repair it. I was pleased when he was confident it could be brought back to a better than new condition. So off went my distributor in the mail. In less than two weeks it was back, looking good as new. It had been recurved for a smoother advance and the vacuum advance unit was tested. The first noticeable impression was that the car idled smoothly at about 600 RPM. I had power and good acceleration from low RPMs which I didn't have before. The fuel efficiency has improved by 16%. So, for about half the cost of a new replacement distributor, I have the original (albeit only the housing) in a new and improved condition.

Nice to see that I'm not the only fan of Jeff's.

Hey Jeff,

Don't forget it was your dizzy with electronic ignition
that was the final piece in getting the Crypt Car's engine
running.

Thanks,

D

Even my fat fingering the installation (evidentally) can't keep Jeff's good work from shining through.

Now if only Jeff rebuilt ZS carbs....

Re: Lucas Distributor Rebuilt by Advanced Distribu

Crypty can also attest to Jeff Palya's
most excellent carb restoration work.
Pretty much bolt on and turn ignition key.

Re: Lucas Distributor Rebuilt by Advanced Distribu

Many of us, me included, have been duped by ads that have convinced us that "updating" to the 'new and improved' gizmo will make our favorite car run so much better. Many times we find out that a simple rebuild of the original parts is a much better solution.

Re: Lucas Distributor Rebuilt by Advanced Distribu

How long does it take to have a distributor turned around by Advanced Distributors. It's so close to driving season, I may have to wait until next winter.

Re: Lucas Distributor Rebuilt by Advanced Distribu

About a week/ten days for a dizzy with Jeff.

Yankee, I pretty much agree with you.
I mostly try to refurbish Crypty's parts whenever
possible. I too have been disappointed with the
quality of some of the new parts I had to purchase.

I cannot say enough good things about Jeff and Jeff!!

And let's not forget Ace Mechanic Dave from Canada!!
"Have torque wrench-will travel".

Re: Lucas Distributor Rebuilt by Advanced Distribu

I sent mine to Jeff about 2 weeks ago and it was back in a week from the day it was shipped. He did a great job, the dizzy looks great, and the car ran much better (only did a trial run before starting an engine build). He fixed things that I did not realize were wrong, installed the Pertronix system, tuned the dizzy for the planned engine mods, added an adjusting thumb wheel to the advance, and put together an additional plate with a points set in case of emergency.

His price was most fair and I feel it was a very good value.

And Jeff was great to work with during the project.

Re: Lucas Distributor Rebuilt by Advanced Distribu

he is quick, and they look great. i haven't tried mine yet, but i have no doubt that it will work flawlessly.

Re: Lucas Distributor Rebuilt by Advanced Distribu

I sent mine to him via the US Postal Service and that was how it was returned to me. It entered the system in Hawaii on 8 Feb and I had it back 19 Feb. Jeff is quick he received it 14 Feb and send it back on the 16th. So the longest period of time was transit time, i.e. "in the mail". Jeff is also very good about telling what he thinks needs to be done and how much it will cost.

Re: Lucas Distributor Rebuilt by Advanced Distribu

Do yourself a favor and do it now. Then you will enjoy this season so much more. Contact Jeff and ask what his lead time will be before you pull it out.

Re: Lucas Distributor Rebuilt by Advanced Distribu

Dave, you didn't make it to the club meeting tonight. We missed you.
