Lucas Alternator Upgrade / Replacement ????

I have a stock Bugeye with the addition of an electric fuel pump.

Only drive maybe 10 miles or so every few weeks. Have never had a prob with stock generator, battery is always fuly charged and night lighting is not a prob at all. shrug.

I like this little guy 48.00 Isuzu pup 1983.

Well, I didn't mean to cause <span style="font-style: italic">quite that </span>much of a stir!

Part of my issue was I didn't realize how low the output was on these Lucas units. The simple act of turning on my parking lights actually causes my idle to drop considerably, like 200-300 RPM, nevermind the headlights!. When I learned that theses Lucas units are only providing 35Amps, cost over $120.00 and, I'm sorry, but mine is dying after a fairly short life, well, maybe you can understand my frustration.

Now, I realize that I'm running a lot of accessories that were never intended for this car, and that may have led to it's premature death, but had I known how low the output was, I never would have bought the Lucas alt. in the first place.

Twice the juice for half the price seems like a good deal to me regardless of the question of reliability.

Jack, you had a reason to upgrade - you said, <span style="font-style: italic">"I'm running a lot of accessories that were never intended for this car"</span> so you need more output...but, were you not running anything other than what was part of the car when new, I'd say you just need maintenance on your wiring harness, particularly all the various grounds and inline connections.....but, a larger alternator was the correct thing for you.

Having a heavy electrical load won't wear out the alternator earlier, at least not to any significant degree. If the load exceeds what the alternator can produce, the needed current just comes out of the battery. That's fine for a while, but obviously if it goes on too long, you'll discharge the battery, and then the system voltage drops and the car dies. But it won't hurt the alternator.

Its a 50 AMP from NAPA
So, now you just need to do the math to figure out how much you need for all your updates.

Are you sure thats from an '83 Pup? The only Pups I could find were from '91-'94. So is it from a Pup of that era, or maybe from '83 of a different Model?

Sorry it is a 93 94 pup and it is external regulator.
well this one is going back I want an internal regulator.
Silly kid did not listen at NAPA. Ratzs
If you use a Lucas regulator its the F connection for excitation
