lubrication for gear extension

What type of lubrication is good for the gear extension arm. I just replace the aluminum extension since it was totally worn out, probably since the oil / dirt mixture ground out the Al were the ball goes in.... So what are you using to lube it.

I can't say as I've ever lubricated anything in the shifter extension. For one thing, it seems to get enough (if not too much) "stray" lubricant from other places (presumably the gearbox itself), and for another thing, it's all pretty much nylon bushings that really shouldn't need lubrication.

I'll be interested to hear other opinions on this. Meanwhile, I don't think I've ever heard of the specific problem you had to address. I've rebushed more than a few of these shifters over the years but never had to replace any "hard" parts -- just bushes!

I just made sure I have enough oil leaking from the valve cover to lube all the shifter parts. Sounds like I'm joking...but I'm not. I did apply grease to get it lubed before the "leaks" kick in.

The Al socket was worn enough that the ball pushed right through the bottom...
The plus side of replacing this is that the shift pattern is now more of a normal H shape rather than the strange K pattern that it had before.

That portion looks reasonably similar to the TR box, where I find that dry spray "moly" lube works well.
