lubricating a pilot bushing

The Rivergate kit for installing a Datsun 5 speed advises that the bushing should be lubricated; I checked with my brother the mechanic and he advised putting a thumb on the underside of the bushing and filling it with Automatic Transmission Fluid and then putting another finger/thumb on top and squeezing the ATF into the bushing. I gave it a shot, but ended up just putting the bushing into a cap full of ATF and letting it soak.
Alternate suggestions?

From my days in aircraft maintenance (out in the Llanos of Colombia), oillite gearings...heated them with a torch on a flat plate until red, flip them off into a can of motor oil.
Opens the pores, gets oil in.
Worked on magneto rebuilds on Helios.
 
Most input/pilot bushing are made from oil-lite bronze, it is very porous type of bronze, which is what Rivergate suppies with their kit. Just sumerge it in some motor oil for a few hours, and then install, you'll be good to go.
 
Oops!! What happens if you forget to lube before installing? Cant recall doing it and engine and tranny are in and bolted down.

Aaawww Jack, we coulda watched him pull the engine! (course I might have waited till April 1 to suggest it)

I deserve some ribbing for having my head up my you know what. Hopefully it was oily brass and will last as Jack says until next time. Some other spinny thing will no doubt come unglued, leaving me plenty of opportunity to spit on it correctly.
