Wow, I hope he does get that kind of money for it. It'll help the rest of us early spit owners. What I really wanna know is where he got those nice new stickers for the seatbelts! Edit: He says he got them off ebay... that's no help /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nonod.gif

I hope he gets it too. Personally, I don't care for the paint. But the quality of all the work is superb. I would bet he has more than the Buy in Now in it.

Beautiful restore!

A little pricy for me right now,
I'm sure someone will be very happy with it!

It is nice BUT i doubt he'll ever get what money(s)he put into it.As we all know the market value of our cars are dictated by the general NADA book value. If whomever buys it will be that one(1)person that has a museum or just wants to throw money at something. It diffently isn't original. But it is PRETTY.So far the people i've talked to & seen it have the same opinion.Cheers

Yeah, I agree it'll be hard to get that far above the top NADA price for it. But did anybody else see that article in the latest Hemmings about the Amphicars? Some fool paid something like over $70K for one at Barrett-Jackson and the prices shot up like 400% almost overnight. Now obviously there are more Spits than Amphicars out there, so the market wouldn't be so volatile, but any upward pressure is fine with me. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I realize that most people who own these cars want the prices to rise but personally I don't see it that way.

I do not plan to sell any of my cars, if anything I would buy another. In any case a dramatic increase in value merely makes many enthusiasts less likely to thrash the vehicles or even drive them on public roads.

Having entered the hobby at a time when a driver TR3 could be had for under $300 I miss those days and the freedom to enjoy cheap fast British cars.

She's a beauty... but at THAT price? Wow...

Really, it isn't that much money considering what you are getting. This or a Miata for another $10,000? Also, it isn't going to depreciate over time. Go ahead, have your cake and eat it, too.

I owned this same year and model in high school, although not nearly as nice. Great fun to drive. Bought it for $500 in 1979.

Its kinda like buying a starter house & fixing it up for resale. On Barrett Jackson couple years back when someone won the auction for that 76 Spitfire for an outrageous price,Thats the kind of ONLY person that would be interested in this.Exposure to public viewing is the key to selling for profit.Buying a spot on prime-time tv it would be gone in NY minute.

Jeff O'Neil, the owner of the Spitfire AND the totally triumph network website, is a real Triumph expert and a heckuva nice guy. He's written and published a book about restoring this car, "Mrs. Jones", and it's very nicely done.

Whoever gets this car will have a perfect, show-quality Spitfire. No, it's not entirely original, but close enough with virtually every bit on the car done with utmost care and skill. No expense was spared and I'm SURE he's got way more than $17K in it. Probably twice that.

I've been a member of his website for several years, I still can't believe he's selling the car. I don't think it's a money issue (he's an advertising executive -- business owner).

Whatever the reason for selling that beautiful car, I'm going to make a prediction: he'll regret it!

At least I always have . . . /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

I know the owner and car personally. Jeff did a superb job in bringing the car to its current condition. Nothing was done half way. ALOT of time and effort were spent on the details. Look at the rare European spec taillights for example. It is a beautiful car indeed.
Here is a better link detailing the car. Mrs. Jones

They're not just European spec; they were, in fact, also on the 1970 model year "Federal" Spitfires and GT6s, which also had additional reflectors (to take the place of that function in the older-style lenses) on the rear. No question they're rare lenses, though, having been generally unavailable new for 25-30 years.

I enjoyed reading about this restoration, and can't believe somebody didn't scoop it up. Personally, I believe he would do better to offer this through a different venue.

A better venue? I listed my Spitfire last night on Ebay and woke up this morning with 15 emails so far, some with cash offers. You tell me a venue that can display your vehicle to as many people around the world as fast as Ebay. You would also be amazed at the number of very knowledgeable classic car people that scan Ebay daily.

I saw your listing last night, but didn't put two and two together. The car looks great, btw.

Re: Lovely Spitfire...can't believe it's for sale

Having just bought my first LBC this year I hate to see the prices go up too much also. I would like to be able to buy another in the next year or so (for the wife) and knowing now that I can in fact tear the engine apart myself and (hopefully) get it rebuilt and running again, I won't be able to afford another one at the rate that they seem to be increasing.

This one listed is a great looking car. I would love to be able to buy something like that to drive around but like someone else said, as the prices go up the reality is that these cars will be become show cars more than drivers which also is sad.

I paid $2000 for mine and have about $600 into it before the rebuild. So I hope to have a good running Triumph for less than $3500 when it's all said and done. At that price I can afford to drive it. Just my $0.02 worth.
