In the post on the vendor problems W.S. Brunkhurst adds a intresting reply. This caught my eye as just the night before in my local paper (I always check the classic car ads)there was a ad for "Wanted Jags and Healeys" most of the time the ads are for muscle cars or Model Ts.What got me was that the contact number was a 800 number making it a good probability that it was not just some one who loved English cars looking for one.I think we all know the importence of money in the world and I know that when I need parts or service it sure is nice to have them available. So I guess my question is -- How do you feel when you see adds like this.

I've seen ads like that in the Houston paper weekly for years. Called one once & it was a 'dealer' in St. Louis or Kansas City- offered me $5000 sight unseen for my 67' 3000- what a deal. The ads must pay off for them or they wouldn't keep running them. I'll bet your life will be better if you stay away from those folks.

Guys,

I called one of these numbers in Seattle when I was selling my Tr-6. Turns out they were a chop shop that sent the parts of the car or whole car (depending on condition )overseas.

A lot of times those ads are from brokers who really aren't enthusiasts but someone just wishing to purchase your car for the purpose of reselling. They prey on the unknowing widow or widower, friend or family member, wishing to "unload" their uncle, Dad etc. "old worthless car." I hope all Austin Healey owners familiarize family members with this prospect and take action to prevent this from happening.
