Hello everybody,

My name is Klaas. As you might suspect, this is a Dutch name. And your absolutly right. However, since 5 years I live in France. I registered onto this site on behalve of a Dutch friend, who is the owner of a 1972? MG Midget. He bought this car from an English friend, who at the time lived, like me, in France.

After some years of hard work on the car, the restauration of the Midget comes near to its completion. I t was time to get the car registered in the Netherlands. During the restauration he had removed the VIN tabs and put them neatly in an envelope. Unfortunatly as a result of a removal the envelope got lost and no copies exist.

The only thing he has is the Engine number. According to the previous English owner, the engine is the original engine of the car. Is there a way to track back the VIN number trough the engine number?

The engine number is 12CE/DA/H 14362. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Klaas

As for your engine number -
12 = 1275 cc
CE = Austin-Healey or MG
DA = Close Ratio Center Change Box
H = High Compression
14362 = Serial # of Unit

1967 - 1971 Not for North America

sounds like quite an issue - you might <might> be able to get a number here with the engine number

Not sure how rigorous the process is in Holland but it's not impossible to get a VIN from a wreck or parts car.

Hello Klaas

The vin number should be located in at least 3 places. Did he remove all 3? There is one plate in the "A" pillar between the hinges, one between the dash and windshield and of course one on the "B" pillar by the door lock.

Hello David,

He removed all the plates, some were hanging on by one rivet and he was afraid they might get lost during restauration. The removal decided otherwise. The floorpan has been renewed by the previous owner, so that stamped number is gone. Thanks very much for your input.
