My Dad was one of the very few Merchant Marines left that helped supply England with food and supplies during WW2. He was always very proud of that, but never bragged about it. He said a couple of times, he could never figure how he and his ship made it through and back twice, when so many others didn't even make it one way. He would say, I guess it was just the luck of the Irish and smile. He just had his 92nd birthday in February. He passed in his sleep with no pain. All that knew him will miss him. PJ
 
Paul - I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

You knew your Dad, and will miss him. As I do my own Dad, WW2 vet, my best friend, and honorable all his life.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I still think of my dad every day since he passed away 15 years ago. I was lucky to have him in my life, as you were lucky to experience life with your dad. I am glad that he passed peacefully in his sleep.
 
Sincere condolences. Father-in-law, WWII Vet who served with pride, is as we speak in the hospital. The prognosis is not good as there is talk of hospice. We here truly feel your sorrow but we hope all the good times will be what you remember. That is what we here have decided to do. We don't know how much time he has left. We are hoping that we can take him home but even that is very iffy.

So Paul please accept our heartfelt condolences.
 
Paul sorry to hear of your loss..but he lived a long, happy life & went peacefully...that's all any of us can hope for!

He has my respect, and my thanks. You Paul have my deepest condolences.
 
My sympathies.

Lost my dad in 1992.

He was a WWII vet - Airforce Flying Tigers - Chinese Theatre.....I could never get him to talk about his experiences. (Did find out he had a geisha, though!)

Paul, Deep condolances to you and yours. 92 and go peacfully in sleep, can't ask for much better. I offer a "Thank you sir" to him for his service to our great country. I make it a point to show my gratitude to any vets. Especially those who saw duty during war times.
We would not be here today if it were not for hereos like him.

Paul, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Loosing a parent is not easy, no matter their age. Sounds like he was quite a guy and did his part during a very difficult time in our history - the world owes guys like him a debt that can never be fully repaid.
 
My condolences Paul on your loss. My own dad was on the north atlantic convoy merchant ships also and he passed away 1972 at age 69. I also joined the M.N. and spent 7 years crossing the atlantic between the UK and Canada many years later.

Our sincere sympathies, Paul. That's the hardest of all the losses I've been thru yet. Most of that generation in my family are gone now but my Old Man's departure is what pangs the most. Peace, friend. Recall the better times spent with him and try to smile.
