Lost a friend

I just heard today that an old friend from my days as a police officer in the UK passed away on the 18th of August. His funeral service was today.

He was a dog handler, and we shared several escapades whilst on duty and many a pint when not. We lost contact after I moved here but it's still hard to take. He was only 61.

So say a prayer tonight for Dennis "Chalky" White if you feel inclined to do so, and/or raise a glass in tribute to a good copper and a good man, who has finished his last tour of duty.

Sorry to hear the news Steve. Just awful when a friend passes.
Will think of him while I'm on the pitch tomorrow for a tournament

consider it done

and, sounds, like a toast will be in order - single malt here a little later this evening.

Aww dammm.

It ain't "fair" Steve.

My heartfelt sympathy. Really.

I hate this stuff.

Sorry to hear that Steve. It's always tough to lose
a good friend.

I'm bummed.
Afraid of my own mortality

Nah,

A few of the best things in life...
Laughing so hard your face hurts.
Midnight phone calls that last for hours.
Laughing for absolutely no reason at all.
Friends. Knowing that somebody misses you.

Life is too short so...
Kiss Longer...
Laugh Harder...
And smile Sweeter...

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO- HOO what a ride!"

don't want to hijack the thread or minimize the sadness, but, life and loss is about the fullness of friendship and love not the emptiness.

Hey - you're the expert at dealing with this sort of thing-
who are we to be "experts"?I post this sincerely.

that's the great thing about life - no experts, no rehearsals, just an ongoing apprenticeship.

the last true amateur endeavour.

Whom are you quoting, J-P?

Sorry to hear it, Steve. Will raise a glass in honor tonight.

Steve: Just saw this. Sorry for your loss.
As we get older, this happens more and more. Dennis was about a year older than I am right now.

And I agree with JP's sentiment: The loss is sad, but the best legacy is to celibrate the goodness of Officer White's life.
