TR6 Looking for TR6 repower options.

Don't worry, we have 2! We are keeping one original and having fun with the other.

My dad and I are looking for sites of people that have done any conversion with a TR6, transmission, engine, everything.

We were hoping to see what we have ahead of us, before we go tearing things apart.

I'm going BMW 2.5 inline small six (M20) in mine. I'd love to see one with a 3.2l M engine. I like keeping the principle powertrain configuration the same to try to salvage the driving dynamics. I sure like the Rover V8 idea, sounds like something a factory engineer would have done back in the day.
 
I agree with 35thbdaytr6. A 3.2 or 3 liter M engine out of a BMW would give you a LOAD of power, and much more refinment, throttle response, and smoothness than a V8.

MORE??? With all due repect, I would have to disagree.
A 5.7L can provide alot more power with little or no effort. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Now, if you have access to all the BMW parts in the free world it might be easier to convert.
Using a small block V8 can provide virtually endless configurations.

Yeah, but a V8 sounds like a V8. There's just something about a TR6 that sounds right with the 6. Same with my 2500M (TR6 engine). Guys swap in a Ford 302. It's fast, and there's a precedent in the Griffith 200 & TVR Tuscan (made from the TVR Grantura with a Ford 289) but it's not a faster TR6, it's a different sounding, and thus feeling, car.

My dad through out the idea of putting a turboed 4g63 out of a 98 Eclipse, the car was wrecked and the motor is fresh, with only 18K miles... sounds like fun haha.

Has anyone on here actually done an engine conversion... would you mind giving me a litte info on what I'm getting into and what the main problems you ran into were?

I believe the Ford 302 is probably the most common swap. The weight of the Ford V8 and Triumph six are very close.

A 4 banger (even turbo'd) in a TR6 seems like a backward step somehow but if you do go ahead with it you can use a Hyundai Stellar 2.0L 5spd gearbox to help convert to rwd.

Check out the setup that Dan Masters is doing (I am sure that he is finished by now) over in Tennessee. He is the guru that wrote the fantastic electrical book for the TR6. Small block Ford, 5-speed and a narrowed Ford rearend. The pics are worth the look. He is a stickler for detail. He can be reached at danmas@aol.com.
