Looking for opinion on keeping original parts for my modified Healey

I chose to modify my 62 Healey for my driving pleasure. Some of the modifications include Putzke's Fahrspass shock conversion, Smitty 5 Speed conversion, Denis Welch aluminium head, radiator, lightened flywheel, back plate, cam, starter, H-8 carbs, header and 2" exhaust. That being said I retained most of the original parts including transmission, head, flywheel, carbs, back plate, starter, rad etc. The car looks bone stock from the exterior and I have no intention on selling it having owned it since 2004. Recently I've had someone ask me to sell some of the original engine parts. The money gained won't be a life changing experience but the parts are just sitting there. Should I sell them or retain them and sell them with the car if and when the day comes? Appreciate your feedback!

If you don't need the cash, then don't sell the parts. Your cars worth a whole lot more if the origanal parts are still with it.

Thanks Dougie

I'm just getting geared up (no pun intended) to watch another season of basketball at U of P on the Bluff where my daughter is playing in her final season. That said I absolutely love the color and look of your 57 and would be thrilled to see it in person sometime! Maybe we can do a lunch at Rock Bottom's downtown? FWIW I was swaying in the same direction as you in keeping the parts. Thanks again for taking the time to respond!

I acquired the side shifter I assume was original to my BN7 when I bought the car last year, though I wanted the car because it had the Smitty conversion. Doubtless there are issues with the transmission, but I felt acquiring and keeping it enhanced the car's value.

When modifying my BJ8P1 over the years, every change, except the installation of in-line fuses and some strategically-installed relays, is totally reversible. Since most of my Healey is still using its original main components (shocks, transmission, engine, etc.), I have retained such components as generator and regulator when transitioning to an alternator, original vertical console and radio when converting to a modern multi-component Bose system, and the like. Although these components do have value and are still in excellent condition, I have never thought of selling them as I believe some day, when I am gone, my son or daughter may want to return the car to how it was when new and I was actively courting their mother. In short, although not in use, to me they are still part of the car and go with it wherever it ends up.

keep them....... the next owner may want to convert back the changes you made. Those original parts are most valuable with the original car.

FWIW

I am keeping the old starter motor and the oil filter, both have been replaced with more modern alternatives.
