TR6 Looking for one .060 TR6 Piston

Hello fellow Triumph owners,
I recently had a rod go on a newly rebuilt motor and am seeking a .060 overbore piston to replace the one that got destroyed. Looking for new or near new. Thought I'd check around before I bought a complete set, since the ones I have only have a couple thousand miles on them, if that.
Let me know if anyone has one laying around!
Thanks,
Zach

Zach,

Try calling British Parts Northwest and ask if they have any singles.

I believe I might just have a new one with rings on it. (AE) PM me with your phone# and I'll call you later to tell you if I really do have one or if I'm in a 4th dimension parallel universe kind of reality! LOL! Sherman Bird, prop. of Avian Automotive! Fixer of LBC's and modern stuff, too!

That dimension is reserved for those who think that they are really "done" fixing up their LBC.

 :iagree: I thought I was "done" with my TR6 once. But only once...

Curious, what caused you to throw a rod, were there any symptoms before it failed, how much damage did it do, did the wrist pin go, did you have warning?

Guess why I am asking so many questions......

I REALLY don't like the way this is going...........

Bill,
I have not taken the dissasembled the motor yet to investigate. I was having low oil pressure and am pretty sure this contributed to the motor's demise. I should have taken it off the road, but it was too fun to drive. Hopefully next motor will hold up better. Also, does anyone know if 0.060 pistons are prone to failure, or can these be reliably run?
Zach

Oh, and one of the symptoms was a short, maybe one second, knock on start up that went away. The other being excessive smoke.

Not yet, I just don't like that chugging knock at idle or low rpm that really doesn't seem to go away. I will get some audio/video of it this weekend. My oil pressure is really quite good, no smoking of exhaust pipe, just a worrisome knock that has been there for some months, even before I lost my cam and after that overhaul.

Oh, and I ways always warned not to bore over 30 in response to the original theme of this thread. Sleaving?

Searcher,

I hate to say it, but with the grandkids visiting and several weekend golf tournaments and the beaches, I haven't even started it for nearly a month.

I just plan on driving it a lot at the end of the month and through the fall here in NE. Several club events and shows to attend. I hope to make it to Dyno Day in Sept when the Boston MG Club holds their annual event. I'll let you know as soon as it's strapped down.

Bill, what does the old big screwdriver against the block and up to the ear say? Can you get it running on a lift and listen to it from down under?

Paul,
We have been driving our 6 a lot. Shirley even took it to work last Monday! Yesterday I had a new top-down Porsche pull up next to me at a stop light and compliment the car. We got talking and nearly missed the green light.
We were at a cruise night last Thursday with a lot of American iron and had several comments on how great our engine bay looked and how clean it is.
We have a few more long drives coming up this fall too.
Golf?
And grandkids!

Tom,

The big problem was that I was at the beach and there was no way my car was going into one of those parking lots. Besides, with everything we took to the beach house that we rented, I could have used an SUV instead of the Taurus and 500. And they have huge trunks!!

Golf is a relaxing hobby of mine that I used to be pretty decent at when I had time to play a lot. With the business climate today and hours required at work, along with trying to get a lot of other family things done, the TR6 driving and golf both suffer.

I've been trying to get a Sat to get down and look at Elysium's car and I haven't gotten that done yet!! I'm hoping to see his this weekend if he's around.
