Looking for a Windshield

Anyone out there know where I can get a new or very good used <span style="font-weight: bold">windshield </span>(clear or tented) for my 73 roadster at a good price. I see it seems to be going for $119 plus shipping from VB and Moss.
Anything cheaper out there? I need one in the next week or two.

Dont cheap out on the windshield. The triplexx glass from moss is well worth the money. I also found the triplexx glass is a lot easier to install than the cheaper glass. If you must have the cheaper glass any auto glass shop can get one.
 
I can get you 458-815 for around $100 plus shipping.
 
And there's a possibility the "cheap" ones have a "lensing" issue, too. Variations in thickness due to poor QC. Triplexx is ALL I'd use. I've seen the other ones.
 
The last cheap one I had in my 75 had the lensing issue and it was pretty annoying. The current cheap one I have in my 73 does not but it was much thinner and a royal pitb to change out vs the triplexx. I was wishing I spent the extra coin after day 2 of install.

I have a windshield in a frame you can have if you can figure a way to pick it up.
 
Thanks, but I just bought a new one from LBCarCo for a good price. Moss was all out, VB wants an arm and leg for shipping and LBCarCo is close enough to pick up. I will put it in next week some time.

Is there a good site for winshield installation either somewhere in our archives, or on another site out there? I was wondering while I have you reading, is it possible to put the windshield w/ rubber glazing in the frame without taking the bottom rail off? I originally put the frame to car seal on, which takes alot of work, and chance of cracking the windshield. Would hate to pull it back off and install it again. Thats how the original windshield cracked the first time. Too much presure putting the seal on...

As far as I know, not without breaking the glass. Resign yourself to the fact that the whole frame has to come off! Take the whole frame apart, remove the old glass and then reverse the procedure. I, like a few others, would rather change three transmissions than do one windshield.

PS, I spray the rubbers with silicone before inserting in the frame work.

I did take the frame apart by the way. New problem is the glass seems a little wide for the frame. I can not for the life of me get the windshield frame to close all the way around. I am short about 3/8" on top or bottom, depending on which one I attach first. Its a Moss laminated winshield. Not the triplex...
Anyone have this problem? And what did you do to remedy it?

Well the windshield fit after half a day of cursing. I also got the body to windshield moulding on without too much of a problem. Two sets of hands helped. Thanks for you help, I think I got it. Tommorrow I will put the windshield on the car.

I take that back. I could not get the thing to go on for anything. I cant see how VB can call that a body to windshield seal, but its junk. I did get one side of the frame on I think. I have one bolt that is in for sure, and I cant tell 100% if the second bolt is going in the hole, or going under the frame pillar with some of the bottom grabbing the bolt? This is the passenge side. Driver side, I cant seem to find the hole in that sides pillar. Even with the frame pushed down as far as we could possibly push it, the center brace doesnt even come close to touching the dash for attachment?
Any help other than how to install 3 trannys instead of a windshield would help...

C clamp will be your new best friend. I would loosely thread the 2 center post bolts then use the c clamp over the windshild frame and the ridge for the door seal to pull the frame down. You should be able to pull the windshield down enough to get the bolts to go. Use padding on the windshield and remove the door seal before using the clamp.

The new seal will be a royal pitb and make sure you have the lip out before trying to tighten it down as you will crack the windshield if you dont.
 
*sigh*


Get the gasket pulled out forward and use wide masking tape around the whole assembly in three places (ends and center) to kinda keep it that way, offer it up to the body and get the pillars into the holes. Short Phillips screwdrivers to fiddle and force the holes to line up and start one screw on each side... remove tape from the outside two locations. Push from the center top of the frame and try to get the two center bolts JUST STARTED. Fight with the Phillips drivers in the center holes of the frame side attachments to start the other two bolts, wiggling the seal forward with chopsticks or tongue depressors...

Once you have all four side attachment bolts started, begin to draw the center down with the two tiny 1/4-28 center ones. Some soapy water sprayed under the seal can help relieve the rubber-to-paint surface tension, wood tongue depressors & chopsticks help to get under the seal to keep it from curling underneath with minimal trauma to the paint finish.

It's all a matter of patience and the right swear words. Tongue position seems to play no part, other than the odd bite-down on occasion.
 
...if you have open joists in your garage, fashion a 4x4 from the ceiling, place a square block on the post, line up block and 4x4 and bottle jack the frame down in that side,have some one start the bolts, ditto the other side.You might have to stick a screwdriver in the holes on the side that will be next,to keep from lifting up.
