Anybody got a Tenor Guitar (4 string) they'd be willing to trade or sell for cheap? I'd really like to try and learn some old Dixiland/Jazz tunes on one, but I don't want to spend a fortune on something I may or may not be able to get into. If it works out, then I'll look for a nice one... you know.
Lesse, for possible trades I got lots of plastic model kits, TR4 parts, Darkroom equipment, or can rebuild carbs and such...
I know it's a long shot, but ya never know...
 
banjo, ive also often been tempted to buy an accoustic tenor guitar, but could never justify the expense since i own 3 electric bass guits, and two bass amps, i have seen them on ebay and reasonably priced at that, im about to put my "godin" elect. up for sale on ebay ill check to see if any tenors are on. rock on...
 
You can get a Baritone Uke (really, a similar thing to play...about 30" long) ~HERE~ for about $100.

.....or, they have an ~even cheaper one~ (but no info on size.....might be tiny)

$150 bucks is a little past what I can do for chasing this little fancy. I figured it was worth a shot to see if any of you other eclectics may have had one collecting closet dust, and would find some of my junk or services more valuable....
I'll be keeping my eyes open. I've gotton a few other instruments that way.
My current collection is
Ovation 6 string acoustic guitar (the battlestar! it's been everywhere)
Ibanez 12 string acoustic/ electric guitar. from the scratch and dent room at Ibanez
junky Series-10 6 string electric guitar (traded a nintendo NES for it)
Resonator 5 string Banjo (gift from my uncle who never played it)
Fiddle, from my dad, needs some parts
Auto harp (my aunt works at Salvation Army. she grabbed it for me)
Fender 12 string acoustic guitar (was my cousins, I got it when he died, needs work)
Act-One Appalachian Dulcimer (on clearance at Wal-Mart. No kidding!)
3/4 scale 6 string acoustic (gift from my cousin many many years ago)
Bamboo flute, nice one. got it at a renissance fair
We also have a spinnaker Piano of my wifes.

Things I'd like to get a chance to play with,
Tenor Guitar
Tenor Banjo
Upright Bass
And I'd like to get a mandolin. My dad has one, but I'd like to have one here to get to know how to play it better.
I'd also like to get the fiddle fixed, and take a few lessons with that.
 
got one of them 5 string banjo thingies about 20years ago and still can't play it and also a little banjo uke that I also can't play :cryin:
 
I'd like to pick up a tenor (4-string) banjo some day. Would be a fun addition to the repertoire, and doesn't require me to learn new fingerings as I'm already a mandolin player. Upright bass is a hoot, but rarely an inexpensive pursuit.

You've scored some good deals there, Banjo. I've had to purchase most of mine, with two fun exceptions:

Seagull 6-string acoustic guitar (my workhorse)
Custom Telecaster-style electric guitar (part Warmoth, part lawsuit-era Japanese Tokai)
1924 Gibson A mandolin (inherited from a godfather, an amazing instrument)
191? Weyman mandolin (inherited from a different godfather)
Michael Kelly F-style mandolin, for camping and outdoor gigs
Kentucky electric mandolin (solid body)
Spector electric bass
Fender Musicmaster electric bass
Custom Jazz bass-style fretless electric (Warmoth components)
1940s (ish) Kay upright bass

This is pretty much a lifetime lineup now, only one (the MK mandolin) will go at some point. The others should see me out, and I've (hopefully) got quite a few years left.

Funny how collecting/playing instruments and old cars seem to go together sometimes. Much the same aesthetic involved, I think. The costs are somewhat similar too, but instruments take up less space. The instruments, though, earn me money. The car, not so much.

Nice collection Drew. Those mandolins sound sweet. I don't get to play mandoline much, but they're fun. I need to add one to the store here.
I gotta work on the "making me money" thing as well...

Mandolin has become my favorite instrument these days. For one, it's the smallest, most portable instrument I've ever played (after years as a baritone saxophonist, I appreciate smallness). The Gibson was like inheriting a slightly tatty MG TD or TR3 from a relative. Not the top of the line, but still a fairly rare and sought after instrument. 80 years on (and original frets) and it still plays and sounds like a dream.
