I haven't decided whether this a clever way to solve parking problems or just a feel good advertising campaign.... maybe some of both.

 
Not only that ,if they are tough enough you can use them as bumpers between cars

Or, play "pop the balloon" like you do with bubble wrap.
 
If it's for real I think it's a great idea. If not, maybe it should be.
 
It's for real.... I drove around and around the Philadelphia airport parking lot a few weeks ago. It was frustrating going up and down the aisles with no spaces. This is a low-tech solution that's easy to try and see if it works.
 
You're right Steve... there are drawbacks; but it is "green".
 
I don't think you can manufacture helium as it's naturally occurring element. I meant the whole concept is "green" since it does not use carbon energy to power it.

Extracting helium from the natural gas process isn't particularly cheap... or to store. Besides, who runs around to these parking lots re-filling the balloons?

I like the new system seen in many parking garages (like at an airport) where there is a small light above each space... red or green, and a bulletin as you enter about how many are currently available on a given level.
