Looking for a Bugeye

After the car show, last weekend, I received a phone call from one of the guys that was there. A friend of his in Dayton Ohio wants a runner. He is not looking, he is buying. Any good leads would be appreciated!!

I know these cars have always been liked. I think that they are beginning to become a real "sought after car"!!!

Made me feel good last weekend. I had a bunch of people tell me how they were either looking for or are in the process of restoring a BE.

I have loved these cars since I was a kid. Now that I have mine on the road the responses that I am getting from folks is amazing! I have had a few cars over the year, but nothing like this one. I have never had so many people talk to me about the car that was driving.

p.s. (At both shows.) If I had a dime for all of the kids that I hear tell their parents that my car is their favorite and the entire show I could afford to get that new radiator that I have been dreaming about!!

I would tell him to start with eBay and Craig's List and keep an eye open! Also, don't forget to keep an eye open in the BCF classifieds. There always seem to be some BEs available on the market from basket cases to full restorations. It really all depends on what he is willing to spend and how much work he wants to do to fulfill his desire for one!!

Heck! John K. has a few ... see if his stock portfolio has gone far enough south to motivate him to sell one.

 I recommended Ebay to the both of them. They did not seem interested. I don't know why, that is what I would do.

Barry,

Let those of us in Dayton know if this guy comes up with a car. Local help is always needed.

Here's one on my watch list - too far from me to do any good, but maybe for him...

Bugeye in Bath PA

Hmm... Yellow front, green trunk, multicolour floor with some red oxide primer... a half & half car, maybe? Not that that's always a bad thing, but I'd want to have a good hard look in person.

Amazing, a "99% complete and original" '59 with a 1275 motor. Must be a factory racing special...

Regarding Barry's comments about these being "really sought after cars," I would temper that with the following:

- I never even knew a Bugeye existed until I bought my MKII Sprite and began to read the literature. I saw my first AH (a 3000) about six years ago and fell in love with the entire LBC idea, but even then I just happen to see the car driving by when it caught my eye.

IMHO in order for cars to be in demand (enough to matter) they need exposure. My BE attracts a crowd where ever I go, but that isn't very far and very often. I'd like to see their interest boom, but I think in order to do that you would need a retro - like the BMW Mini. Has one ever been in a movie or TV show of note?

The barn find since '72 doesn't seem righ either. When did they change to Octagon knock off, I think it was in the early 70's, so those would have had to come off of a very new car at the time.

Barry, Do you like yellow? If you do, here's a good buy, as you couldn't build this car for the asking price with some of it's features. The color is a little much for me.

WOW - "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"

Actually, I kinda like it!

I would have to say it would be a crowd pleaser.

One thing that sticks out - beyond the color! - is the fit of the front clip where it meets the body. That would bother me if it were mine.....

That bugeye was on ebay recently. I do not think the bidding got anywhere close to 15,500, but I may be wrong.

I believe you are correct Trevor. It has some nice upgrades like a 1275 and front disc brakes but no 5 speed conversion etc. Most like really worth around 12k but some people think they have struck gold when they go to sell one of these.
