Is there such a critter yet? A hand held device which you speak in to, and it speaks back translating to another language?

I meet and (try to) teach dozens of visitors every day at Sturbridge Village. Not all are fluent in English.

Does anyone use an audio translating device which handles major languages, like English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese, etc.? Not text based - audio based.

Thanks.
Tom

Yes, I believe there is an app for that. (no kidding)

https://speechtrans.com/

While some translator apps may have trouble translating certain dialects (suthern), I find a pistol of any caliber works quickly to break down any barriers to your intentions. :congratulatory:

Not sure how well this works, but, my cousin (teaches engineering) wrote a fascinating ( and award winning) article last year about the next frontier in computing/internet being language translation. Her point was that universal protocols make the internet possible and that we now need the same types of protocols for consistant different language translation.

This is interesting. There are actually more possibilities than I thought. Thanks for the links. I wonder if anyone here uses something like these. I'd sure like to connect with someone who could give some real-time feedback.

Takk fyrir aftur og bless!

Tom

Tom- Have enough problems with English

Google has had a "translator" program out for some time... it may not suit your needs for humans, but for the farm animals it just might be what you need.
