My Britmobile collection has always included MG's and Healeys. Now I have a chance to buy a restorable TR4 (maybe an A), and would appreciate any advice on what to look for
when checking out this car. I'm interested mostly in common
weak points (like rust, and where it grows), hard to get parts, etc. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I thought there was no rust in California????Some kinda law against the importation of metal worms& medflies.

Steve,

As far as the hard to get parts, I don't believe there are any, thanks to suppliers such as Moss, etc. Check for door sag, look up under the sills for rusted body mounts, and the usual checks for earlier collision repair. As long as the frame is solid and the body is straight you should be fine on a restoration.

Hope it works out for you. Keep us posted.

Had a TR4A...that rear end (IRS) was a bit of a bother when it started wearing out...looked a tad like a lame duck under hard acceleration, but a fun car nevertheless.

Thanks for all of the tips and pointers. Just got it unloaded and covered up to keep the cats from marking it.
I got VERY lucky! Its a super straight TR4 (no IRS or OD)
with zero rust. Complete as far as I can tell. Engine is
apart, even the cam is out but everything looks OK. Its
a 1966 (I think), and has been sitting in the same spot
(inside) since 1973. Time for a beer! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

So does one more old LBC added to the collection mean not married? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Congrats anyway.
