MGB Looking at a 74 1/2 MGB need advice

Early '74's had chrome...mid '74's had Sabrina's...'74-1/2's had rubber bumpers

where in Lower alabama? check the body real close with a magnet...there's rust down there! If it indeed is solid & you don't want it, tell me how to contact the guy - I do!

Tony,
I'm in Brewton about 60 miles north of Pensacola, FL. Tony, if you are close enough or just happen to be down this way, would like for you to drop by. Maybe get some pointers on the project.

Update on MGB:
Well, Its mine now. Drove it home yesterday, about a 20 mile trip. It drives nothing like my 90 Miata. I think I mostly drove 45 - 50 MPH. The brakes do need some work but it does stop, with some effort.

I've got to go through some of the repair records to see what all has been done. Will post later what I've come up with.

Question: Should the MGB handle kind of close to the handling of the 90 Miata? If it should then I have some work to do on the suspension. Did a little swerve to miss some debris on the highway on the way home and was less than a comfortable feeling. Had kind of a "roll, wandering" feeling.

I do have a lot of work to do on it but the car is pretty solid.
Thanks
Tom

Haha, should handle much better than a Miata. You prob need to renew all the suspension bushings and such. This thing should run on rails.

Tom - sometime this Fall we'll be heading your way...we'll get together....

Congrats on the new toy...yep, when you jack her up to do the brakes, look at the suspension bushings....if any of them look bad, replace them all! To include dropping the front suspension beam & replacing the pads between it & the body.

Might just as well get all new bushing when you order the pads. Shucks, from your post you are going to need em, not expensive at all.

Doubt if you want to wait until after July 4th - but that's when I'll be home from Hawaii.

& my priority then is getting Jack's Bugeye body sandblasted & primed!

Congrats on the purchase, Tom. You won't regret it.

My sister lives in Century, and Mom is in Pensacola. I try to get down there regularly. Will check in for coffee some time.

Oh boy oh boy Tony, getting a bit nervus in the service here.

When the 1974 model year cars came out in late August/September they came with rubber nosed chrome overriders. Starting in January of 1974 all cars were equipped with "sabrina" rubber overriders. September of 1974 all cars had full rubber bumpers.

Last year we owned one of each in our driveway!
