MGB Looking at a 74 1/2 MGB need advice

New to forum looking for advice. Hope I'm posting in correct place.

Went to look at a 1974 1/2 MGB yesterday that is for sale. I know very little about MG's. This one was in an estate that a man was restoring when he died. There is a box of repair and maintenance records. Have not had a chance to really study them but a lot of work has been done. The car has a new top, well a few years ago but has been in storage. Car starts and drives fine. Body is in real good shape, no rust and only a couple of dings, does need painting. The seats and door panels will have to be repaired (replaced).

The car is in good enough shape to Drive as is. I think I will be able to pick it up for $1500. Is this a good price? Seems good to me.

Almost forgot it has the wire spoked wheels (5 of them) with knock off lugs. and new tires.

Thanks
Tom

Welcome, Tom!

If you don't want it, I bet there are about forty-eleven folks here who do! Sounds like a keeper.

Let us know if you get it, and send pics.

Mickey

Sounds like a "keeper" to me, Tom.

...and yes, you're in the right place! Welcome to the forum. Hope you find it useful and fun. This place is all the things you'd pay money for, but don't have to! All questions are welcome, answers usually take minutes to hours, not days or weeks like other places. Very active site with a good cross-section of experience and knowledge.

1500 sounds like a fair price assuming it is really as rust free as you say.

Thanks Mickey,
I thought I would pick this up as a project to fix up and resell later. Need a project.

The car is really rust free and has been in storage for some time now.

One thing I will have to get use to is the mechanical brakes. Well feels like mechanical brakes.

All lights and lenses are intact and are working. The molding is intact also, I think is stainless.

All the glass is there and in good shape.

Looks like mostly cosmetics to be done

Thanks Tom

Hi Tom,

Yes, it's a good price. A very good price for a rust-free car.........Those brakes are hydraulic by the way, seems as it they must be in serious need of a good bleeding, though. That should be job #1 if you do buy it, and it sounds as if you might. Good luck, and welcome to the forum too!

I can and will testify that a 1974 1/2 MGB is a wonderful car!

The 74.5 had rubber bumpers....the early 74's had the "Sabrina's" as pictured.

There was supposed to be a pic of Sabrina but I must not have attached it right.

No prob, Wray: Blame it on "Stray Neutrino Bombardment" and try again!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Morelike Wray's attempt to post an IMAGE was affected by the neutrino hit. I can't say I'd want to contemplate an "event" involving neutrinos big enough to influence a car bumper... even an MG one. Neutrino's are some mighty small li'l buggers, y'know. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Indeed, but my thoughts were that it take a great, giant space in which the neutrino can pass through so that there's any chance at all it will interact with it. So I was thinking that perhaps the sabrinas in the image were just large enough for this to happen.

I personally like the extra large horizontal "sabrinas" made from dense enough material to trap a nuetrino - heheheheheheheheheh - /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Kenny, I think the two objects you have in mind might make the owner a bit, er, top heavy!

"A (low energy) neutrino in flight would not notice a barrier of lead fifty light years thick."

Hey Chuck, nice to see you.

Let me try that Sabrina thing again.
