Here I go again! 1980 TR7 originally came from New Jersey years ago. This owner said it was always garaged. Miles 30k and I can believe it. Solid car minimal rust. Interior nice but the driver see is shot. Imagine that! Drivers 1/4 window has a small crack. He said the top is 4 years old. Looks much older. Went for a 10 mile ride and again he would not let me drive. He said plates are expired. Another guy wouldn't let me drive his car because he wasn't convinced that I could drive a stick. I have 3 triumphs and drove in with a standard shift car. Unbelievable!

This guy said he had the air retro fitted and the fittings were changed but the belt was off. He claimed it works but didn't want to take fuel mileage away when he drove it. That's hard to believe.

This first pic is my biggest concern because there is coolant sitting on the top of the block under the coolant inlet. It looked fresh too. Don't know if it came from the head or from the hoses. I pulled the # 1 plug and it looked good. Did not have time for a compression check.

I asked him how he came up with the price ($3k) and he thought it was a fair price for the car. I tried to explain to him the value isn't there in these cars but he doesn't seem like he will budge much.

That's where the water pump is. There is a weep hole in the side where coolant will leak out once the o rings start to fail rather than letting the coolant leak into the engine.
 
The owner is a goose.
You leave the belt on and unplug the clutch wire.
The loss to mileage due to the belt spinning around and the sealed ball bearing inside the pulley turning cannot be measured effectively.
That, the leak, the new/old top, and the "excuse" not to let you drive it, walk away.
 
I would be leary of the anifreeze ontop of the engine below the intake. It could be a head gasket slow leak or intake manifold. One is easy the other can be a nightmare! You need to see how the floors are where the lower control arms are. Thats were they rust out. Im looking at a rust free 1981 TR7 with 30,000 miles that is fuel infected with a parts lot for $1,000.00 so you really need to be careful! All the 1981 needs is a top and some TLC.
 
Pretty amusing lack of reality on the sellers side. Move on. Lots of TR7s in the world.Grandma might have a reward out looking for the missing parlor seats,though.
 
I wish I could. I see many that catch my attention and they are a half a world away. Seems like a lot of TR8s in Oregon. The company I work for does not pay us for vacation time off so I can't afford to loose a weeks wages to travel that far. In fact I haven't taken a weeks vacation since 2000.

Any how I would like to get opinions on what you guys think this car is worth? Almost all around here asking price range 2500 to 7k. They just sit and sit and sit on craigs list. Below are some links.

Based on what the asking prices are for the above cars, you should consider my buddies TR8. He has it listed for $5700 but I'd bet he would take closer to $5K. It is a nice car for the money. Needs a little sorting. Last two owners were retired gentlemen with lots of hobby cars. Current owner has a TR7 coupe and three gold TR8s. This is the most sedate of the TR8s. The other two have high HP stroker engines, so this one is more of a cruiser. It's had a couple of fender benders in it's life time. Latest was on a Brit car drive. Lady in a MGB in front of the TR8 started thru an intersection then unexplicably stopped for no reason. TR8 went into the rear of the MGB causing front cowl damage. Insurance paid to have it fixed and even paid to have the entire car repainted. It's not a perfect show car, but it's a nice get in and enjoy car, with a non stock interior, basic mods for reliability and drivability. It's worth every penny and then some.
 
Although a good buy I wouldn't have 5k. However I would prefer an 8.

The one in Pittsburgh I saw a couple of years ago before the paint job. the interior is rough to say the least. Plus nobody wants the hard tops I don't think they should sell over 1k. Few exceptions would be a pristine car. But not much over 2k.

Another one just showed up 2 1/2 hours away from my house. $2500 and it has 110k miles on it. waiting for more pics from the owner.
 
Sometimes it is better to wait. TR8s are the way to go. If you had a TR7 and drove a TR8 you would either be selling the TR7 or converting it to TR8 specifications. Even though they look the same they are two different cars when it come to how the feel. TR7 weezie! TR8 knocking you back in the seat!
 
Ya for sure! I drove my friends TR8 last year when he herd I was looking for a wedge. Very stable car and the acceleration is terrific. He believes he has one of the last 25 make. It's fuel injected and it is titled as an 82.

Second choice would be a TR7 with a 3.8 Buick and of course 3rd is the 3 banger.

I'm looking but not in a rush. I don't have a place under cover to put this new toy. I am actually in the process of quoting a 48'x26' garage / pole barn to store my toys. right now I got 3 TRs in a 2 car garage.
 
Anybody ever see this car? It's a Tr7 with a 3.8 Buick V6 with 270 hp. The conversion was done with Kenny Bell performance parts It's in Canada just over the line in Minnesota.
