Look What Just Came Out of the Body Shop!

Leaving the glass out of the front and rear makes the beetle faster:> My shop is currently doing a 60 Baja two tone(moss green and white) a body off total resto on a 71 super beetle vert, and four body on jobs...a 65,68,69 and a 71. All are strips, paints and interiors.Plus I have my 66 bus, a 71 super hard-top and my lonely 77 B roadster being done amongst all the VWs.

We left all the permanenty mounted glass out until after the new headliner is installed.....

Anyone remember Bill Cosby's take on Volkswagon owners from the album 200 Miles Per Hour. He was broken down in his Rolls and a Volkswagon owner pulled up beside him and yelled "we get a hundred miles to the gallon, and if the fan belt breaks we use a rubberband!!"
That was the album he bought a Cobra from Carroll Shelby.

I have a copy of that pic too, Basil. Can't remember where I got it from, but it just fits in some times, now doesn't it.

Nice Bug!
Here is another one fresh from the paint booth, though in this case it didn't leave home. 5 coats of single stage urethane enamel with a bit of clear coat in the "gloss coat"
spray.
I'll finish the trim once I get a partial cure, about a week I think.

Now if Jack will just get Miss A out...Is she trying to be fashionably late?

Cheers!

I've done the single stage with poly colors and mixed clear in the color for the last "wet" coat with amazing results... does it make a difference with straight, solid (non-sparkle) color too? Interesting.

I think that it does help the gloss somewhat, seems to improve the 'flattening' for lack of a better word.
IOW it seems more prone to fill small imperfections in the surface of the previous coat. I also used a hardner on all coats and put slightly more reducer in the final coat. For an inexpensive paint (BASF - Limco) I am very happy with the results.

Cheers!

P.S. The car flew thru emissions today - HC 100ppm CO 2.4% - No doubt, due to the superior air filtering ;-)!
