Hi everyone. I am looking for some new wheel studs for my GT6. It looks like they are 1.25 inches long (1 inch of thread) and I am putting new wheels on and they need a stud about to 1.75 long. Where can I find them?

Help. I have looked at spitbits and VB. Maybe I am just not looking in the right place. Thanks everyone.

So I am looking for something that there isn't?

Might try someone like Ted at TS imports he deals a good bit with the racers as well, so I'm sure he has remedy, also Joe at Checkered (he spells it differently) Flag, he also races Spitfire so he would be good person to talk to as well. Racers very commonly use longer and bigger studs, so checking with these guy should net you some good suggestions.

Thanks guys. I was hoping someone would have a good answer for me. I will look into these. Also if anyone else has any suggestions please let me know.

From the Spring, 2010, "NASS Notes"

Because there are so many studs to choose from
and it’s difficult to get stud dimensions or search for
studs according to their dimensions, choosing suitable
substitute studs is a real chore. One very good option
that I learned about a few years ago from some fellows
on an automotive forum based in the U.K. is to use
Land Rover Freelander studs (part number CLP9037L).
These studs are 12mm thick, 1.5mm per thread (i.e.,
M12x1.5) and they have the right knurled diameter
(0.510-0.520 inches, or about 13.0 to 13.2 mm) so
they will fit snugly and just right into Spitfire and GT6
hubs. Freelander studs are 2 inches long, 1.3 inches
of which is threaded, versus the stock Spitfire and GT6
studs that are 1.5 inches long, 7/8 inch of which is
threaded (1/8 inch on the end is an unthreaded “easy
start” shoulder).

There you go. Let us know if this works.

Here is some more information that I found.

https://www.dormanproducts.com/catalog/2006_hardware.htm and https://www.dormanproducts.com/catalog/hardware2006/137-142_Sec10_Part2.pdf
Has pictures and sizes of studs. The only 2 that are close are 610-175 or 610-166

Also this site has size measurements as well. https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/group.asp?GroupID=WHEELSTUDS

It is just hard to find anything that works. It would be nice to go to a standard size nut. The only issues I see with any of these is they are not long enough.

It looks like Ford escort front studs will work as well if you want longer studs. Dorman number 610-365

The kurl is .523
kurl length .532
Overall length 2.02
12mm x 1.5 thread.

The M12x1.5 Land Rover Freelander studs work well on my '78:

I've been driving on these for about 2 years and over 10000 miles, including some autocrosses. I run on Superlite 14x6, +26mm offset rims and 185/55-14 tires. Ted Schumacher has driven my car.

A link to one of my pages is mentioned above and a quote from the little article I wrote for the recent NASS Notes are quoted above.

I've looked for Dorman equivalents, and the best match is 610-413. Unfortunately, I can't get these and Dorman, while listing them in their pdf catalog, doesn't list them anymore in their online catalog. Summit and Pegasus and Advance Auto and other vendors don't carry them. Next best Dorman may be 610-340, but you may need to chamfer the underside of the head and maybe narrow the head diameter. 610-470 might work, but I haven't tried them yet, and they also need some head shaping. In my limited experience, a good knurl diameter is in the range 13.08 to 13.31mm (13.16mm is ideal); that's 0.515 to 0.524 inches. I have not tried 610-365 either, but they may be worth a try--I'm just worried that the spec'd 13.41mm (0.528 inch) knurl for these could be a tiny bit fat compared to the many stock studs I have, which all range from 0.514 to 0.524 inch knurl. Don't want to widen the hub holes much. An experiment would tell and eliminate speculation.

Thanks all for the input.

Paul,
I would like to try the Land Rover studs as well but they are a bit harder to find. I found a source on the net for them at roverparts.com.

The advantage of the Dormans is I can get them local and since I would have to make mods to the Rover studs as well it may be worth a try. I can get these for about 1.50 each vs the 3.00 + shipping each for the rover studs.

Sometime it pays to look at the metric studs this is exactly what the MGB guys are doing when doing the spline wheel to bolt on wheel conversion and MGB racers as well, it turns out 90s model GM Camaro and Vette studs were the perfect knurl size and knurl lenght, knock right in, and comes in different lenght, even quick racing studs.
