I guess that answered that question, Mickey..lol..thank you I will try it. Are they normally grounded to wotk? I ask only because the Moss Motors tech said you don;t need it, but I can't imagine that you don't. Not sure how many electrical devices can run with just a hot wire. How else would it complete the circuit?! Do you know if typically the electronic pumps require the ground on the other lug? I even asked th MM tech why do they have a separate lug which looks like it is ground if you don't need it? I am assuming there used to be some sort of metal bracket the pump was attached to that grounded it automatically then thy put the rubber sleeve and required a separate wire?

Unless it's grounded through the mount or somehow through the fuel line connection (?), it has to have both positive and negative supplied somehow.

these forums are like having your own team of experts and awesome dudes! thanks I'll give it a shot and post back.

No expert here; I'm still groping around in the dark like many! I do ascribe to the "Even a blind squirrel..." message, though!

holy crap..the ground and the hot wire were both on the same terminal..how the heck did the old pump ever work? i'll ground the pump off the other spade plug as soon as I get hom etomorrow and test it.

well i feel like a bit of a dumb@$$. Although not a car expert I am pretty fluent in electrical principles! Whate threw me is when I called Moss Motors tech support and the guy told me it did NOT need a ground...did I misunderstand him??

Don't beat yourself up. We've all been there.

So, it's working now?

i can't check until tomorrow night. But i KNOW for a FACT that there is NO ground on that new pump and that's why it ain't pumpin'!! tomorrow will tell!

Hello everyone..I would like to say:

YOU GUYS ARE THE SHIZNIT!!!!!!!!!

Yes, tonight I got the MGB started thanks to ALL OF YOUR HELP!!! and it was a bad pump, clogged lines, rusty tank and a missing ground on the pump!! You guys just saved me a buttload in labor costs and taught me something new! I cannot wait to get the insurance on the MGB so I can get her rolling. I got a few bulbs to replace and maybe a horn to fix too. I cannot wait to put this little baby on the road! Ok, so the last thing I see right now as a possible major issue is some kind of clearish liquid on the floor under the middle of the car that has leaked and apparently keeps slowly leaking but I can't see where it is leaking from since I have no lift. It is NOT gas as it has no odor. It is slightly slimy and possibly a light green. I am thinking it may be coolant but its not REALLY nuclear green. its VERY light. Possible? and weird part is it is under the middle of the car right under where the stick shift would probably be and it was probably about a pint or more. Transmission fluid because the car sat for almost 2 years? Thanks guys...!!!!

BJ

Shiznit - that's good, right? :jester:

Glad you got the fuel issue straightened out.

Your new problem could be transmission fluid, but it also could be brake fluid from the line that runs to the rear, or clutch fluid from the slave cylinder. Can't rule coolant out, either; the heater sits at the rear of the engine bay, and it could be leaking from one of those connections. You need to get under there with a good droplight or flashlight. Also, easy to check fluid levels in the brake and clutch master cylinders and the radiator.

Let us know what you find.

Mickey

SHIZNIT: EXCELLENT, AWESOME, "DA SH*T!!"......

Excellent idea, Mickey! I have a nice little circular driveway to test the car on..ill go about 75 and hit the brakes see what happens! lol..just kidding. I will start checking those fluids. Probably busted a seal after sitting all those years? I'll post results Friday
