My story began when I was 9 years old. Our family was on a farm vacation to the Midwest. The son of the farm family we were staying with asked me if I wanted run some errands with him. He slid the garage door open and there sat a 1959 British Racing Green Bugeye Sprite. We cruised town with the wind whipping all around us, zipping around corners; I felt like we were flying. I fell in love and decided that when I was old enough to drive, that was the car I wanted. In 1974 I bought an MG Midget, new off the floor for $3150. I've owned 5 different Midgets and a Triumph TR6 over the years; I'm a fan. Today, I own a 78 Midget 1500 with a Spitfire OD in it.
Though I worked a career job in corrections I've always had my head under a hood. As I approached retirement I knew I was going to need a hobby because I retired too young, and decided to rebuild a few engines I had on hand and put them up for sale just to see how it went. I sold both in a relatively short time and core engines came in to replace them. I studied up on the Spitfire 1500 and made a website hoping to rebuild and sell 2 or 3 engines a year just to keep myself busy. That's laughable; I've rebuilt 35 engines in the last two years and not just Spitfire 1500's; I've had MGA, MGB, TR4a, TR6, MGTF, GT6 engines in and out of my shop. My hobby has turned into a full-blown business, and I'm supposed be retired. HA!
I'm sure I don't charge enough for my work, but I'm not all about the money; I'm about helping LBC enthusiasts keep their cars on the road.
So, why am I just now joining this forum? I was elsewhere and now I need information about a car not on that other site. So here I am. I've been looking around and Basil has done a good job in setting up this forum. I like it, I think I'll just stick around.
