Hello,

I bought my '60 TR3-A non-sync from my cousin in Aug 2019. I have been wanting to drive it for almost 40 years since the first time I saw it stored in his mothers garage when I was a kid. He finally decided it was too much to maintain and with a little push from his wife he sold it to me for a "great" price. I suppose the sentimental value alone made it worthwhile and its still in the family. Of course I told my wife i would have it professionally restored quickly and be driving it around town in the spring. I did take her and some of the nieces and nephews for a spin around the neighborhood but soon discovered that it was overheating....so now I'm into an overhaul that started with a tune up. I'm almost ready to get the engine started after I re-install the fuel tank, fix the leak in the differential.....
This winter hopefully I'll get the body taken care of and the interior and the top, etc.
I have found information in this forum that was not available anywhere else so I look forward to continuing the restore and perhaps being able to share some of my experiences.

Might do a radiator clean out also. and many of us find that an electric pusher fan in front of the radiator helps a lot with heat. These engines are very durable. We went to a lady's house that had a TR3 sitting for 20+ years. She wanted it to start so she could sell it as a running project. The hoses were shot, as was the fuel pump. But we squirted gas into the carbs and had it running in 30 min.

Welcome to the forum.

Great looking TR3A. Radiator flush may help and check the thermostat is the correct temperature. 180 degree is what it should be as far as I remember.

The Triumph section is very active so you will get plenty of tips and advice there for your TR3A.

Restorations can develop into a long project because as you remove one thing to fix it you uncover another problem.

I did have the radiator tested unfortunately it was deemed unservicable. replaced the metal fan with the big yellow fan with a little modification.

the next re-build will be the wiper motor for which i will be posting a question shortly.
