Locking gas cap for 1970+ Midget???

I'm looking for a locking gas cap to replace my broken original. Both Moss and Vicky Brit's locking-type caps are only for "through 1969" Sprites and Midgets. Neither vendor sells locking gas caps for 1970-on Spridgets, excepting the "Aston" quick-release caps, which are a bit pricey ($157 +) for me.

I'm assuming the OD of the gas filler neck is different on the 1970-on cars???

So, who sells a locking gas cap for a '74 Midget?

Thanks, guys.

I think they are the same except the 1970+ are not vented.

Thanks, Trevor. But, will the pre-70 caps fit a '74? I'm wondering if the hardware on the end of the neck is the same.

Wait until someone else confirms, but I'm 95% sure they are the same.

I also seem to remember that old ford truck gas caps fit. Early 60's I think.

Venting issues aside, there were 2 gas caps. The early ones were of the inside clip type, the clips went inside the filler pipe.
Somewhere along the line they went to an outside the filler pipe cap.
Easy enough to tell which one you have just by looking.
And it is also easy enough to swap out the filler tubes from any square body tank.
They also did change the rubber filler hose in later years, longer hose, shorter pipe vs longer pipe and a short elbow hose but all are interchangable.

Well... I stand corrected. This forum works well.

Hmmm, Trevor, a Ford gas cap on an MG??? I'd feel like a traitor, or something, if I used that Ford cap! :yesnod: Thanks for the suggestion, tho'.

If anyone finds the appropriate cap for a post-70 Spridget, please let me know.

There is always the Moss option 202-780, but it would still be almost $100 from a Moss distributor.

Pep Boys has the chrome gas caps that fit our cars, $7-$8 bucks off the rack.
Do watch for the depth of the clips, they have one that does not fit, the clips are too far down the cap. There is no listing for our cars but bring in your old and match it up.
I think 66 Ford pick up fits. Or any Ford that had the chrome cap on the side behind the cab.
