My latest project runs! Sounds good too!

I bought this '73 RWA Midget about 6 months ago, just because I wanted the 1275 motor (to put in my A35 racer project). But the car is nice and solid and I hated to cut it up.

So I decided to save it and put orignal 948 engine from the A35 in it (35 horsepower).

Some of you may recall that I used this 948 as sort of an emergency race-engine at Watkins Glen in 2010. You can read more about that at the bottom of ~this page~

My goal is to just slap it together using all the spare Spridget stuff that I have laying around (I have lots of unused stuff on hand including new rod bearings, spare gaskets, new brake parts, etc.). I figure I can build a running street car for well under $500. Paint will go on with a foam roller and likely to have no interior other than some shabby seats. Plus a roll bar with some decent belts. In other words, sort of a rat-rod but in the style of a sports car.

I already have a nice street MGB so I don't really need this, but I see it as a sort of running parts car for almost no investment. It's a slight distraction from my new racer, but that's OK. As long as it has good brakes and is safe to drive, I won't care how ugly it is.

First photo below is when I bought it. Others show 948 going in.

The world's slowest rat rod. I like it.

Is that 'John Deere' green engine piant????

Kurt.

There are plenty of riding lawnmowers with about that HP.
WTG!!!
Just don't try driving uphill...

:jester:

Yeah, the DGV Weber is one of the many unloved parts that I'm using to build this car......the kind of stuff I wouldn't put on a car I care about.
Also using my "worst" ribcage trans, most patched-up radiator and of course, the 948 itself.

As a result, it'll probably run great!

My lawn tractor has 24 HP and weighs about 1/3 of this thing, so the tractor is probably quicker.

I'm torn on building a rat rod race replica out of a parts car I have now or having to get rid of it. While it would be a good car to do it with, I really can't afford to do it. I need to just focus on the 1500, but I really want to build this other one too.

Replica of what?

Nothing car or team specific, just something that looks like it was an old road race car that has seen better days that was put back on the street. (With my number on it of course  ).
