Listen to this

Hi Banjo,

"Loud" is the word I most commonly hear to describe the Monza system, too. Try to listen to one on a TR before committing to buying it, before making a decision.

Cheers!

Alan

Banjo,

Don't go with the Monza, its too expensive, and kinda sucks. The large pipe with a glass pack sounds much better, and costs only around 30 bucks or so.

Macino,

How big of a cam do you have in it? To me it sounded like it was missing, and I in no way meant to insult you or your work. I seriously doubt anyone on the board did for that matter. Someone else mentioned the fact that it was recodred on a camcorder, which as we all know doesn't have the best quality sound, and I think almost all of us were listening to it on our dinky little computer speakers. But it really did sound like a miss plus it never went away which one would expect with a cam. Once again sorry if this opinion offends you, because its not meant to. You can call me an asshole if you want, just don't call me old. I've only got a year on you. And one more thing, its a beautiful car, I don't think anyone is going to argue that point on here.

I personally have a Monza on my TR7 and it's too loud for me (PO put it on). However, Rich has one on his TR7 Spider and it's just about right. A little sporty, but not loud.

I'm going to get rid of mine though because I can't even go through a drive-through with the car on.

Being an old hot-rodder/drag racer from the early 1960s, I didn't know there was such a thing as "too loud." We used to install "cut-outs" or "dumps" on the exhaust systems of our "Tri-Five Chevys" (a modern term, we never called them that). That way, we could run the exhaust straight out the bottom of the headers when racing. If we could have legally gotten away with no mufflers at all, we would have done it.

Oh, and speak into my right ear, as I don't hear so good with the left! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

PS--Great TR, Mike! (By the way, my #2 son graduated from Purdue in mechanical engineering in '96)

Much love to Triumph! They are the greatest cars. If you don't know what they are you are not even living yet. My aunt use to have a TR6 and while it is not the fastest car, that car could kick ass. It was just freaking awesome and british end of story.

Thanks for the warning on the monza exhaust. I rebuilt a TR4 at a shop I worked at, and we fit it with DCOE Webbers and a Monza system. when it was done it was a LOT quieter than my car is now. That car is now for sale from the same shop, it can be seen at www.stonebridgecars.com it's the black 62 TR4. I really liked the raspy throat the pipes gave it, so I'll probably go with that, or, more likely a cheaper equivilant on mine. I can't afford the Webbers but I do have a 3/4 cam and a header so it should sound good. Right now it sounds junky. But I have to admit it makes me smile to drive it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
