Lisence plate light - BE

Am I doing this backwards???

To fit the license plate light, I attach the light to the body-colored metal piece. attach 2 metal clips to the holes on the back of the metal piece.

Then I crawl into the cave and try to put 2 screws out thru the body and into the clips on the body colored metal piece that someone is holding in place on the outside.

This seems awfully hard to do (I got one in tight, the other won't seem to attach.)

Am I doing this backwards? Is there some way to be screwing from the outside thru the metal piece into the body?

that's what i was afraid of.

ah well, back into the cave tonight to get that 2nd screw tightened before I drive the car and the whole thing falls off.

Plinth - I remember that word, wasn't sure if that's what the piece was called or not.

Another plinth on the car is the section of metal that holds the license plate to the front of the car when you don't have a front bumper attached.
