while cleaning out the trunk of my new 75 midget i found a licience(sp) plate bright yellow, black letters, reflective. on the back were three circles of doublesided sticky tape. later i noticed the front plate bracket had the same sticky tape left on it as the rear of the plate.

is this the original british plate?
it is 18x6 roughly
the numbers or "F955 TSG"
can i find out anything from these numbers?

From your description I would say that you have a UK rear licence plate. It would not be the "original" plate, however, as it would have been issued around 1988. The last two letters of the suffix in this case should give a rough indication as to whereabouts in the country the plate was issued. Your plate would have been issued in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The front licence plate would be white with black lettering,same dimensions.


Is your car a RHD UK model? Cars going directly for export are not registered or issued plates in the UK. Hope this is the information you need.

I think Joe's on the right track-I've seen plenty of cars (old Brit cars, new Mercs, etc.) from rear-plate only states with European or British plates on the front. There was a vogue for it around here ten years ago-VW Golf owners seemed to have a lot of those German plates on the fronts, even though Illinois requires fronts.

A previous owner probably bought a Brit plate and put it on the front of the car because it looked cool...
