On it now, pretty much the same as Mint, just a different desk top. Couple extra added apps etc. Very fast and no one pushing upgrades down your throat like Microsoft. It's a nice quiet operating system where you can do your thing without being pestered by outside influences. But, saying that, all the bells and whistles are there to use if wanted. Nice. :encouragement: PJ

Well, that was short! Switching back to Mint. Ubuntu 15.10 works like it's set up for kids. Kinda of a pain to get around with it's picture buttons instead of program and file names. Oh well, I tried. PJ

We use Ubuntu on certain systems at my work. I've been threatening to install it on an external hard drive here at home just to play around with it.

I tried Ubuntu a few years ago and hated it. I couldn't figure out how to put icons or folders on the desktop. The miles my mouse had to move as I tried loading different programs was too much of a waste of time and energy. I will be trying Mint with the KDE desktop very soon.

I have ubuntu as dual boot with win 10 on my laptop and mint as dual boot on my desktop. Never used either before but as soon as my new internal drives arrive I am going to be putting Mint on them and switching out drives if I want to use win 10. I will reformat my existing drives for just win 10 but I think I will be moving completely as I get used to using it. I like mint.

I installed Linux Mint, (latest version), and removed Ubuntu 15.10. I have duel boot with Windows 7-64. I have Windows parked and use Mint, I like it much better than Ubuntu as it has more standard controls and much easier to get around. I keep coming back to Mint, think I'll stay there.:encouragement: :highly_amused: PJ

I keep suggesting CEntOS but you guys still go to Mint and other variants! Once you have CEntOS set up and running, you have no issues.

...and GNOME is not your enemy!

Doc, can I download it and burn it to a disc? PJ

Just found out I can download the ISO and burn it. Will do! I'm willing to try anything. :encouragement:

I just downloaded the Centos IOS file but it is 7.2GB, way too big for a DVD. What can I do?

Thanks Greg. I'll give that a try. Have to go get a new one first though.

Forgot to mention. Make sure your computer can boot from a thumb. May need to make changes to the boot priority in the Bios.

There is one mirror for the iso file that's 4.3, will load on a 4.7 disk. I don't remember which mirror site it's on. Will expand when loading. I have to partition my HD before installing it, it is a very large file and uses most of the disc. PJ

That is a huge file. Most ISOs are a gig to a gig and a half. I'll guess there are added packages like Apache server that folks like us probably won't use.

I forget who, but someone suggested I try Fedora.

I found the DVD version and downloaded it too and burned to a disc. Still haven't changed the BIOS to boot from DVD though, other priorities.
