Linkage

Currently having trouble with accelerator linkage on my 73 TR6. Lost the little clip that holds the horizontal shaft to the adjustable shaft. I believe it fell off because of the bad adjustments in the linkage. A LOT of effort was required, pushing down on the bell crank, to get the throttles to open. Not smooth at all. I think the effort required to open the throttles popped the clip off. I plan on tightening up the crank and all those little pivots as it is very sloppy. I also plan on replacing the shaft bushings (has anyone done this successfully with the Moss bushings?). Throttles don't close very well either.
Any advice? Should the linkage move fairly easily? Anyone got pictures of a proper set-up?

You shouldn't need much pressure at all to operate the throttle. Sounds like something is binding. Can you operate the throttle easily from the engine bay by moving the throttle linkages directly?

RATCO, on of The Forum sponsors, offers a very neat cable throttle linkage that will fit on a dual ZS, dual SU or even a dual Weber setup, ie, stock. I have in on my triple ZS setup an cannot say enough good things about it. No more sloppy linkage.

tdskip,
No, pushing on the control link assembly, which should move the bellcrank and open the throttles, is very difficult. A lot of force is necessary; then it jumps open. I think it is adjusted wrong or just way to sloppy and it's binding somewhere. Could you make an objective description of the required force?
Tried to buy the parts required to do the improvement on the accelerator from McMaster and Carr, as suggested by forum members, however they won't ship to Canada??
I am going to try to fix as according to original, but may have a look at the throttle cable suggested by TRBill.
Thanks,
R.

Here you go. The instructions are tailored for for my triple carbs, but if you have stock twin carbs you won't need to bend the bracket, just drill and install after following the rest of the directions.

You might as well fix those firewall bushings (articles mentioned above) while you're in there.

Smooth accelerating!!

When I get to the throttles on my TR3 I will go with something similar to the RATCO setup.. My friends TR6 has some wicked linkage issues and I have tried to show him how nice my MGB is..

Ted at TSI said a Spitfire throttle pedal will work for the cable conversion. Might want to give him a call and see what that is all about. Either way I would ditch the linkage stuff if it needs to be refurbished.

Good luck.. You can't make it any worse...

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm going to try to adjust everything to a satisfactory level to get me through the rest of the driving season (we're lucky to get to the end of October). Then I will get the Ratco set-up to install over the winter.
One more thing, should I paint the accelerator cross shaft when I take it out to install the bushings? Or should it stay shiny and smooth?

I suppose that you could, but if you lube them, it will only peel and probably look worse than without. A nice annodized finish would look good and protect the steel nicely!
