Hey guys.

Are there any LSD's that i should be looking out for specifically for havin a bit more fun in my B? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Anyone swapped over the stockie dif?

When it comes to changing a diferential over, does the install require you to completely pull apart the rear suspension?

Quaife makes a nice unit but it isn't cheap. You will only notice the difference in really hard driving, such as autocross. Whether or not it's worth the expense is a personal choice. Installing it does not require removing the rear suspension, and if you have a banjo axle it's quite easy. Tube type is a bit more difficult but not too much.

To get an idea of whether you’ll have more fun with an LSD just ask yourself “have I ever noticed any wheel-spin, trammeling, hopping, etc?”

The racetrack is the most obvious place for wheel-spin because you’re always on the extremes of traction but you can find it in “normal life” any time the road surface gives major imbalances in traction. Roads that are wet, oily, uneven, rutted or covered with sand, gravel, snow or ice can easily lead to wheel-spin.

Stock MGBs aren’t known for breaking traction from torque alone, at least not on clean, dry pavement anyway. If your engine is modified for high output you may well benefit from an LSD in the dry.

I would agree with Steve on the Quaife. It’s an excellent product. They’re rugged, have no clutch packs so they require no maintenance, and are warranted for life.

I read (skimmed over) an article about taking the diff out of a AM General postal jeep and swapping it into an MG. They came out with Dana 35's and posi's are easier and cheaper to find. I realize this doesn't help you much down under, but you might find a Jeep diff would work too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
