Attended the Lime Rock vintage races today. Many LBCs. Most surprising? 1. The Triumph Spitfire that was turning laps at about 1 minute and going neck and neck for the lead with a Ford GT 40. Some Spitfire. 2. An Austin-Healey 100 M that ran away with his race. There were MG TDs, a very loud TF , Elvas, Lotuses, a couple of Jaguars not driven especially well, a Daimler Dart, Coopers, 2 TR3s - but not your cousin's TR3 - these had padded rollbars, no passenger seat, fire extinguishers and were stripped for action, but they were nowhere near the Healey - the fastest Healey I've seen. Fastest cars were the Lolas and March, turning laps of about 47 seconds on the 1 1/2 mile track. They were probably doing 130 down the straightaway and braking for the 30 mph turn at the end. The driver hardly backed off in the ess turns. In the pits, I noticed the Italian cars all had Fiat engines and the Brits seemed to have mostly BMC A engines. Anyone else there today?
