Lime Rock vintage races

Attended the Lime Rock vintage races today. Many LBCs. Most surprising? 1. The Triumph Spitfire that was turning laps at about 1 minute and going neck and neck for the lead with a Ford GT 40. Some Spitfire. 2. An Austin-Healey 100 M that ran away with his race. There were MG TDs, a very loud TF , Elvas, Lotuses, a couple of Jaguars not driven especially well, a Daimler Dart, Coopers, 2 TR3s - but not your cousin's TR3 - these had padded rollbars, no passenger seat, fire extinguishers and were stripped for action, but they were nowhere near the Healey - the fastest Healey I've seen. Fastest cars were the Lolas and March, turning laps of about 47 seconds on the 1 1/2 mile track. They were probably doing 130 down the straightaway and braking for the 30 mph turn at the end. The driver hardly backed off in the ess turns. In the pits, I noticed the Italian cars all had Fiat engines and the Brits seemed to have mostly BMC A engines. Anyone else there today?

I'm going tomorrow. I've gone for the last several years. It's a blast. Great to walk around the pits.

Wish I could be there someday. Maybe next year?

Was it Rick in the blue Healey? He's pretty fast around Lime Rock Park.

It has been years since I was at LR for any races. I used to regularly drive up for the day. I have a good friend who goes up for this weekend every year, but then he used to work in CT, so it is home for Geoff. I am sure that his Classic Motoring, llc page on Facebook will have a number of great photos from the weekend later this week.

The fast Healey was white with red trim. I can find out who the driver was if you like. My friend has the program. There was a driver named Oritt. Isn't that a name on the Healey board here? I'll post there.

Was it this car? I think it races on the East Coast. Michael Oritt is a Healey owner and vintage racer running Elva's.

Is that photo from the PVGP? (Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix)

Nice shot!

That looks like the car. Michael Oritt says it was Rich Mamoulian. I don't have the program. I'll try to find out.

The results? Rich Maloumian, Jr. in A-H won all his races turning times of 1:01. The Spitfire finished 2nd to the GT40 but then beat the GT40 in the 2nd race, turning times of 1:02. The format was 2 races per day, morning and afternoon, 12 minutes in length, Saturday and Monday. Results are posted online under Lime Rock vintage race results. Michael Oritt from the Healey board was also there but not racing a Healey.
