Lime Rock Vintage Event - jaded?

Finally, a mystery engine. I'm sure anyone who was there knows what it is. I sure did a double-take. Any guesses?

The Mystery engine is a Curtiss! It's in the Franzise! I saw it last year at Watkins. Its an engine developed and used for the Curtiss Jenny Bi-planes of WWI. Glenn Curtiss Grew up and had his business about 60 miles from here. The museum they have in Hammondsport NY is awsome!
The car is awsome! it sounds like an onld Bi-plane.
Maybe only 5 pics, but they are 5 great ones! I personally like the Ferrari shot, with the faded "J. Fangio" on the cowel. What history!

*You're* jaded!

Mr. Earle charges racers a ton of money for pretty slim track time.
And I'm told the *famous* cars get to run for free.

Plus (for me, at least), Lime Rock is creepy to drive.

We'll be at NJMP September 19th-21st for the Thunderbolt Historics (it's a spectator event) plus the VRG vintage event at The Glen on October 17th-19th. These events are cheaper to enter and the cars are a little more "grassroots" (but still very nice).

We're all looking forward to the return of the Jefferson 500 at Summit Point in May 1-3, 2009.....many of us thought they'd never be able to resurrect this event.

Neat "aeroplane" motor! I guess you gotta squirt oil on the cam and rockers before each "flight".
 
Well I'll take your place then John... :square: I could probably easily blow off at least 1,000 photos there, wish I was there, just simply way too far away...

I probably have, in years past. Now it's more of a social event for me. Btw, I'm not trying to imply that the event itself was boring. I think it was an improvement over recent years and everyone was really happy with the new track surface.
 
Those carbs, and the current distributor are modifications made to fit the engine into an automobile. The original engine configuration had two pipes running down the back of the engine and one big carb sitting down below, with air intakes running under the sump. And the ignition was a magneto setup that layed parallel to the crank in the vally between the cylinders.(all aircraft setup)
you're probably right about the spelling too.
That's one of the cooler "aero-cars" of it's day. I hope it's at Watkins again this year.

What you hear in this video is just what that car sounds like when it's running. It's cool!

Thanks for the link to the video. My first airplane ride was in a Curtiss Biplane on floats - they claimed it was the oldest Curtiss still flying at that time. I don't think it had an OX-5 engine, though. I need to get over to that museum some day.
