Curious how to best position a jack to lift the rear of a solid axle TR4A?

The shop manual states to lift at the center of the rear axle... this is the rear differential, no? This can't be good for the differential?

What do you experts do?

Thanks,
Mike

The diff casing is a cast iron piece. lifting the car by that is not going to hurt it. The rear axle is just about the strongest part of the car.
The other option is to lift it by the frame.
Either way is fine

Really depends on why you want to lift it. Lifting under the diff will let the springs hang down before the tires are off the ground because the axle is above the frame. Lifting on the frame will push the axle up, So for changing wheels and tires, it should lift quicker if you lift on the frame.

As Banjo said, the axle is very strong but be sure to use jackstands on each side for safety.
