specialized tools like that are expensive, I agree, they are not meant for 1-time use, but for upholstery shops who use them in 20 or more jobs before they need another one.

here's some suggestions:

try an upholstery shop, but chances are it will cost you more to have it done than to buy the tool and the fasteners. You can buy the tool and then resell it to get most of your money back. Find someone who will Rent or loan you the tool. Advertise to do the job for others and start your own service.

For Tenax it does. For the Lift-a-Dots the elliptical shape and orientation of the "fangs" is tricky without the tool. I have one here and just did a tonneau. Took all of half an hour. The same tool is good to have for the soft top installation, too.
