I really want and need a lift.

I'll probably get the one Geo has from Eagle. Another great one is BendPak, though it requires 220 volt supply and a compressed air source.

If you'd like to see some hard selling, click the link below. I'll avoid commentary, but if you're moved by the theme of extreme and imminent danger, I'll watch it again. It's certainly more toned down than one I watched last year.

There's a video for my lift, unfortunately it is hard to follow as it is in Mandarin.

As near as I can tell they streamline the construction by having the 15 & 16 year-olds do the welds near the top and the 7 & 8 year-olds do the welds down low.

Seriously, no question in my mind that the Ohio-built Backyard Buddy is superior (in both materials & design) to my imported lift.
 
In agreement Geo. Two acquaintances/motorheads have Backyard Buddy's. They are both very pleased with their lifts. I've seen them - they are well made.
With my choice of the Direct Lift 9, not only is it an ALI certified lift (with double safety locks), the cost (including the two 4500lb. rolling jacks, jack tray, and drip trays) was lower than the Backyard Buddy lift by itself (no accessories).
But I also wanted a higher lifting capability and a wider between the pillars width than the BB. Also, I wanted to and subsequently did bolt it to the floor.

I've had it now for close to 10 years and has been perfect.

I opted to bolt it down rather than purchase the wheels. I store two cars in one spot over the winter with a 9'6" ceiling.

It's 120V, not 220 like someone mentioned.
 
Did you get the HD-9? HD-9ST? Did you get the compressed air cannister or do you use your own tank?

About the BB, I was joking. All that stuff about welds breaking and killing someone seems to go a bit far. All those "foreign" welds--as if the technique escapes them. I'm sure it's a great lift, I'm just not sure about the focus of the sell.
